Although, not an album run, I am doing all the albums before I decide on songs, so may as well put them in one place to make it easier to look up my favourite songs.

May13. This was a breath of fresh air through the 'serious' music of the time. I loved several songs and saw them live. Quirky stuff. Jul25. The four singles off this album are so good. They brought forward some very good songs from their Froggystyle EP, including first single Kitty. If that one was testing the water, then Lump was a huge splash in the deep-end. I still love this song. I had completely forgotten about songs like Feather Pluckin' and Stranger - there are a lot of deep gems on here. The version of Boll Weevil is awesome, and what a run through the middle with this into Peaches and then Dune Buggy, a song I loved and have the Aussie tour CD for. Then we hit two cracking covers in We Are Not Going to Make It and Kick Out the Jams. Not many album middle-runs are as engaging as this. Back Porch was always a favourite too and then we finish with Candy and a newer version of Naked and Famous. Whilst this is not going to be in my Top50 albums of the year, it sure stands out in my collection, and an on an individual song level, it is outstanding. This is an album I would get out for a good time, but not one I would listen to a lot. Picking a Fav4 is next to impossible, but today it is: Lump, Peaches, Kitty and Dune Buggy. Yep the singles, but several others are very stiff to miss out. Upping my score to Excellent. 6/7 |

Kudos to You! |
Jul25. I have never heard this album. Reading about it, it sounds like it almost never happened. Several songs on here are rerecorded versions of songs that have appeared on Ballew's other bands recordings and solo projects. Poor Little Me, a fun little, countrified ditty, even dates back to 1988. The very first thing I noticed when the album started with the cool Slow Slow Fly was the awesome production/engineering. Every instrument just pops and the sound is so organic and very fresh sounding. The guitars sound great when they fuzz, like on Good Morning Tycoon. The vocals are crisp and not over-produced which is also a great surprise. The songs are your typical fair by the band, with weird and wonderful, and often child-like, lyrics and wacky dynamics. The songs hold up pretty well. Rooftops in Spain is a great, almost new-wave/pop-punk crossover song, that of course appealed to me. What a fantastic, catchy chorus. Stay with Me has squealing, fuzzed out guitars in piles. Holy crap - this album is really surprising me. Many hard rock bands can't get to track 7 before slowing down, but The Presidents did here, with Crown Victoria. It is a cool little slow song with a fun, fuzzy lead break. Electric Spider is another cool song - is that a bit of a tribute to Sabbath at the start? Same with Flea vs Mite - it is like a toned down metal song. Innocent Bird and Ohio keep the good times rolling and also got thumbed. In fact, I enjoyed all songs here and thumbed 8 of them. Fav4: Rooftops in Spain, Slow Slow Fly, Stay with Me, and Flea Vs Mite, but I wanted to squeeze in a lot more than I was expecting to. Very Good to Excellent album. This is not that far behind the debut for me. 5.5/7 |

Froggystyle - EP |
Jul25. Although this is 10 songs it appears it was released as an EP, and self-released too. I can see how this got the band signed. Four of the tracks got re-recorded for their debut the next year, but I have heard some of the others before. I thought they might have been on the Dune Buggy Aussie Tour EP, but I just checked, and nope. Puffy Little Shoes must have stuck in my head from a live performance. In any case, I really like this one. Kitty At My Foot obviously went on to be the very successful Kitty - I had no idea it had already been released here. Songs like Naked & Famous got cleaned up a bit but the version of Kitty here is just perfect. Love the fast beat of Lunatic for Love, but not some of the lyrics. In all, a bloody good first recording for any band. Fav4: Kitty at My Foot, Boll Weevil, Puffy Little Shoes and Tremolo Blues. Very Good 5/7. |

Love Everybody |
Jul25. I kinda feel bad for this band. I am sure I am not the only one that seems to have just dropped them after their first two albums without even listening to their later stuff. They just never got promoted and I am not sure I saw a single CD of theirs after II. I even own their first two and saw them in concert, which I really enjoyed, but I just never pursued their later work - even when streaming became a thing. Well, as we are doing a 7Songs run for the band, now is my chance. I do believe I heard the title track somewhere and it is a fun song. In fact, whilst I barely listened on my first listen, I have played this a through a few times now and I am enjoying it. Not that different to their earlier stuff. I guess the novelty had wore off for most, including radio, by this point, but listening to now, I am enjoying this. A lot of fun tracks. Whilst there might not be a Lump or Peaches here, there are a lot of good-time songs. There are fun, upbeat numbers, but they also slow down for some nice tunes. I ended up thumbing half-a-dozen songs, but liked several others too. That cool little riff in Drool at You is awesome. Fav4: Love Everybody, Zero Friction, Some Postman and Drool at You. Good to Very Good. 4.5/7 |

Jul25. Despite liking a few songs, I remember being quite disappointed in this album when I bought it back in the day. Listening now and it is still well behind the debut. It also suffers from having too many songs and there are a few that could be cut. There is still a lot of fun to be had here and I now know where I had heard those other songs from Froggystyle - they are on here (some with different names). They extended one of my favourites, Puffy Little Shoes, out to 5 minutes and added more keys, which was not necessary at all. Three-and-a-half minutes is enough for such a song. Supermodel was a song I obviously had not paid much attention to and it is pretty good, and another song to reference *Star Wars*. I did not like some of the vocal inflections in some songs either - that exaggerated sound at the end of lines kind of put me off. Still, we have some fun tracks, such as my Fav4: Mach 5, Volcano, Bug City and Froggie. 4/5 |

These Are the Good Times People |
Jul25. Another album I have never heard from this band. Unlike the last one, I had a lot of trouble connecting with songs here. I have always liked their dumb, off-the-cuff lyrics, but many on this album just did not work for me. Some felt like they were trying too hard to reproduce a dumb, fun song like Peaches or Kitty, especially on songs like Ladybug - though I do love the fuzzed-out guitar parts. Only one song stood out to me and that was not until several listens. That song is Bad Times and it is a fun and funny. French Girl and Rot in the Sun grew on me and I ended up thumbing them. This is a decent album for what they do, but it did wear thin, especially at 14 tracks. Fav4: Bad Times, French Girl, Rot in the Sun and Mixed Up S.O.B.. Borderline pass. 3.5/7 |

Freaked Out & Small |
Jul25. Not sure what happened here, but maybe I was not the only one disappoined with II. After releasing a tonne of music from 94-96, this album comes 4 years later and on an internet label. Even stranger, it is the only album where the band play proper (full-stringed) guitars. I have just listened to the band's discography and this one appealled to me the least. It starts okay with Tiny Explosions, the only song I had thumbed for several listens. I liked some humour of mid-album tracks and thumbed a couple, but after that this album is quite bland. Not only that, I found several songs annoying, especially Death Star that sounds like it is sung by Kermit the Frog. I love Star Wars and Kermit, but this is bad. The version of the album I listened to had some demos at the end and many of those were better than the finished songs, especially Tiger Bomb. Things do pick up near the end and the band sound surprisingly like Mudhoney on songs like I'm Mad. I ended up thumbing 5 songs, but none of them will make my lists for my President's favourite songs. Fav4: Tiny Explosions, Jazz Guy, I'm Mad and Black Baby. Average album. 3/7 |
