Hmmm. Funny. I was actually going to seek player's interest in a simpler XP system for when we start our next 5E game and here is the current Unearthed arcana dealing with that topic.
Have a look. Tell me what you think. I don't mind it but was going to go even simpler. What I had planned could easily be done with 100 XP though.
I was going to do something very similar to our other games, where 4 or 5 is the norm. I was going with 5 x5 increments of XP. (Thinking of changing Cypher System to this too rather than 4x4 to align with other games).
So, like Cypher System there are 'steps' to next level. (The idea to do this for D&D actually came to me from 13thAge really - so I will have to get that book out again if there is interest).
Basically, every 5 XP you get '1 thing' from the next level. (I will need to see if there are enough 'things' for 5 advances). After 5 advances you get any remaining features of next level and now call yourself 2nd level or whatever.
A thing could be: attack bonus, new spell (1 at a time), class feature, improved class feature, feat/ability increase, prof bonus, hit points, etc. (Again - need to see if there are enough for most classes AND how many we need for next level).
But… how do people feel about an XP system more similar tow what we do anyway, rather than tracking big numbers? Other thing with this system is every level is same XP.
